Becoming an Adult Helper at 1st Vermont Scout Group

Scouting is a rewarding and welcoming experience, regardless of your age, gender, or any previous experience in the global Scouting movement.

Enthusiastic adult helpers and leaders are always need to keep the group running smoothly. No previous Scouting experience is needed.

Helper Levels

  • Visitors - can participate up to 4 times a year
    • eg attending award presentations
    • Cannot attend consecutive weeks, cannot attend overnight activities
  • Adult Contributor - can participate on weeknight and day activities
    • eg Group Rostered Parents, Committee Members
    • Must hold a valid Working With Children Check
    • Complete online modules for Child Safety, WHS and Code of Conduct
    • No limit to number of times they can help.
    • Should not attend consecutive weeks, cannot attend overnight activities
  • Adult Supporter - can participate on weeknight, day and overnight activities
    • eg Adult Helper for section, Trained Participant for Adventurous Activities
    • All the requirements for Adult Contributor
    • Must also complete a National Police Check & a reference check
    • No limit to number of times they can help.
    • Can attend consecutive weeks, can attend overnight activities
  • Become a Leader - so much more than what's listed above
    • All the requirements for Adult Supporter
    • Plus additional training courses and online learning modules

The group pays for your applications and training where applicable, so there's no costs for you to sign up.

Next Steps

  • Complete the form below
  • The Group Leader will then send you an Invitation to Join Scouts for the selected role. Complete the Invitation to Join which will ask you for more details for your application.
  • Apply for a WWCC or update your Working With Children Check details.
  • You'll receive emails as your application progresses, including links to complete reference and police checks. Sometimes these end up in junk if you're on free email services like gmail and hotmail, so keep an eye out for them.
  • Once all the requirements & checks are completed:
    • You'll receive a certificate of membership welcoming you to Scouting.
    • You'll gain access the training system to complete your training modules.
    • You'll receive an invitation to Operoo to complete medical details in case they're needed on activities.
  • Finally, we'll start putting you into action supporting the Scout Group!
